4 Pin Three Phase Power Boards FAQs

A 4 pin three phase power board is designed to distribute 415V three phase electricity safely and efficiently in temporary or portable power environments. These boards are commonly used on construction sites, mine sites, film and television productions, industrial workshops, and other locations where high-powered equipment must be connected without permanent wiring. The 4 pin configuration consists of three active phases and an earth, making it suitable for equipment that operates without a neutral conductor.

RCBO protection combines residual current (earth leakage) protection with overcurrent protection in a single device. This dual-layer safety mechanism significantly reduces the risk of electric shock, equipment damage, and electrical fires. RCBOs are particularly important in demanding or unpredictable environments where portable power boards are exposed to variable loads and environmental conditions.

The key difference lies in the inclusion of a neutral conductor. A 4 pin power board supplies three phases and earth only, whereas a 5 pin power board includes an additional neutral connection. Equipment that incorporates single-phase loads within a three-phase system requires a neutral and therefore must use a 5 pin board. Applications such as motors, welders, and certain industrial machinery typically operate without a neutral and are well suited to 4 pin configurations.

Yes. These power boards are constructed for rugged use and are commonly employed in outdoor events, temporary stages, and mobile catering operations requiring three phase supply. While they are suitable for external use, they should be positioned to avoid direct exposure to standing water or heavy rainfall and installed in accordance with site safety requirements.

Yes. All three phase power boards are assembled in Australia using components that meet or exceed applicable AS/NZS electrical safety standards. Each unit is fitted with RCBO protection and undergoes inspection and verification by licensed electricians to ensure compliance, reliability, and suitability for regulated worksites.

Yes. Any connection to a three phase electrical supply must be performed by a licensed electrician. This ensures compliance with Australian electrical laws, proper load balancing, and safe operation of both the power board and connected equipment.
